Polish video game producer CD Projekt has announced the launch date of Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. The highly-anticipated expansion to its flagship game Cyberpunk 2077 called “Phantom Liberty” is set to be launched on September 26. The company made this announcement during the Xbox Games Showcase which was held recently. This release will be CD Projekt‘s first major premiere since the launch of the Cyberpunk 2077 main game in 2020.

“Phantom Liberty” will be released for both PCs and consoles. In September 2022, CD Projekt announced that it had sold 20 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077.

The trailer for the upcoming expansion was announced by Keanu Reeves. The actor is set to be back in the expanded version of the game in the role of Johnny Silverhand.
Apart from Reeves, “Phantom Liberty” is also set to feature another film star, Idris Elba. The British actor will be playing the completely new character of Agent Solomon Reed.
The expansion will be the last project to be developed on CD Projekt’s technology RED Engine. For its upcoming developments, the company is planning to switch to the external Unreal Engine.

As per the trailer, the expansion’s new area looks vast and densely populated. According to a report by VGC, CD Projekt claims that the expansion will include improved enemy AI, overhauled vehicle gameplay and new activities for players to discover.
Instead of offering stat-based changes featured in the original game, the developer has also changed all Skill trees to focus on giving players actual abilities they can use in the game. For example, the expanded version will include a new dash move that will allow players to deflect bullets, or perform execution finishers. Modifiers around each skill will also allow players to further power up these abilities.
