Indian techies lost their job at Meta within 2-3 days of joining. Here is what they say.

After Twitter laid off 50 percent of its employees, Meta layoffs have led to the sacking of more than 11000 employees on Thursday. The employees who have been laid off also include some Indian techies. One of the Indian techies who lost the job is IT professional, Neelima Agarwal. Neelima lost the job just after joining Meta two days back. She posted about the same on social media platform Linkedin.

“Relocated to Canada from India just a week back and joined meta 2 days ago after going through such a long visa process. But the unfortunate sad day has come and i got laid off,” she said. According to Neelima’s LinkedIn profile, she had left her two-year old job at Microsoft Office in Hyderabad to join Meta. It can be known that Meta, the firm that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, announced 11,000 layoffs globally or 13 per cent of its workforce to cut down costs.

Neelima is not the only one who lost her job at Meta just after a few days of her joining. According to a report by PTI, Vishwajeet Jha also lost his job within three days of joining the organisation. Before joining Meta, he worked for over three years at Amazon office in Bengaluru.

“I joined Meta three days back after waiting for the long visa process. Thanks to all the folks who made that transition smooth. Really sad that this happened, my heart goes out for everyone who is affected by the layoffs,” Jha posted.

Meanwhile, Raju Kadam, who was part of Meta’s technical team, said he has been in the US for 16 years and never faced job loss. “I have H1-B visa… my clock to leave the US has started today…I have been in the US for 16 years and seen the 2008, 2015 (oil) and 2020 downturns, but never lost my job,” he said.

No country specific numbers of laid off employees have been disclosed by Meta yet. It can be known that the information about the job cut was made public by the Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg via a letter he had written to employees.

Zuckerberg has promised 16 weeks of base pay plus two additional weeks for every year of service as severance package to the impacted employees.
