Apple has recently refreshed the MacBook Pro lineup with its latest M3 chipsets. Now, the company wants its suppliers to start developing the OLED panels that are expected to arrive with the iPad Pro lineup which is likely to arrive by 2024. According to a report by the South Korean publication Chosun Biz, Apple suppliers LG and Samsung are planning to start the mass production of OLED display panels for the next-generation iPad Pro models around February 2024.

iPad Pro models with OLED display: What to expect
Rumours about the iPad Pro adopting OLED displays have been making rounds of the internet for some time now. This switch is now expected to happen the next year. However, it is important to note that the iPad Air, iPad mini and entry-level iPad models are likely to stick with LCD panels.

Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also predicted that the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models that are expected to launch in 2024 may feature OLED displays, an M3 chip and an aluminium Magic Keyboard.

OLED display technology is expected to eliminate the need for backlighting. These panels will also have other benefits like a higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, lower power consumption and more.

For its iPad Pro models, Apple is expected to use very thin hybrid OLED displays with a combination of flexible and rigid materials. These displays may also make the upcoming iPad Pro models to be slightly thinner.

Since the mass production of OLED displays may not start until February 2024, it seems unlikely for Apple to launch the next iPad Pro models in March. The next iPad Pro models are more likely to be announced at WWDC 2024 in June or later.

Apple updated the latest iPad Pro lineup in October 2022, which included the M2 chip, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and Bluetooth 5.3 support. These models also added the hover functionality for the second-generation Apple Pencil, and support for ProRes video recording.

However, the current iPad Pro models are equipped with LCD panels. Meanwhile, the 12.9-inch model features mini-LED backlighting for increased brightness and a higher contrast ratio.
