Samsung has showcased updates to software and services, including its new generative artificial intelligence (AI) model, Samsung Gauss, at its annual tech conference. The company aims to integrate the AI model into its products to improve consumer experience.

The South Korean electronics giant introduced Samsung Gauss and its three sub-models – Gauss Language, Gauss Code and Gauss Image – at the two-day Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) Korea 2023, which started on November 14, underway in Seoul.

“The innovation that Samsung Electronics pursues always starts with customer experience, and the best customer experience is one that caters to the needs of users,” said Kyung-Hoon Jeon, chief technology officer (CTO) of Samsung Electronics’ DX Division and Head of Samsung Research.

“To realise this, Samsung Electronics uses leading technologies that create a new lifestyle, such as AI and data intelligence,” he added.

What is Samsung Gauss
Samsung Gauss was announced at the company’s AI event last week and the company said that it is aimed at enhancing the work efficiency of workers by facilitating tasks, such as composing emails, summarising documents and translating content.

The AI model is expected to be incorporated in Samsung’s flagship smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy S24.

Lee Joo-hyung from Samsung Research’s Global AI Center said that apart from understanding and generating language, Samsung Gauss “will maximise user-device interaction, and provide a more intuitive and natural user experience.”

“With this technology, we expect users to have a more convenient and personalised experience, and to do more creative things with our devices,” he added.

Samsung showcases other innovations
Samsung also presented advanced research technologies and customer experience improvements. These include data intelligence based on knowledge graphs, mobile Galaxy UI features and enhanced connectivity experiences for Tizen-based screen products.
