New Xiaomi 12T Pro design brings a contemporary look, designed to be a sculptural object

The Xiaomi 12T Pro arrived in a Daniel Arsham Edition, the manufacturer announced today. The phone comes as a joint project with the New York-based artist who developed the device to be a “sculpture with a purpose outside of it as a functional object”. The device itself is a 12/256 GB version with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and 200 MP camera but the back panel is green, with copper-colored crystals that shine differently under angle. Daniel Arsham said in 20 years people who will have this phone will use it as…

Xiaomi’s 12T Pro gets a ‘fictional archaeology’ makeover

Even if you aren't familiar with Daniel Arsham, chances are you might have already come across his crystallized Pokémon sculptures. Fans can now get a similar makeover on a smartphone, by way of a collaboration between Xiaomi and the New York-based artist. The Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel Arsham Edition features a faithful reproduction of the artist's iconic "fictional archaeology" vibe, which mainly consists of bronze crystals set in an eroded green patina.  You won't find any protruding crystals on the phone, but the coating's…

Xiaomi 12T review: Imperfection at an attractive price

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is making headlines for its sweet 200-megapixel main camera and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. But did you know, there’s a cheaper version of the Xiaomi 12T Pro? It’s called the Xiaomi 12T, and while it doesn’t offer those headline-making features, it still offers most of what makes the Xiaomi 12T Pro a great phone. Does it close enough? Well, for some people, certainly, especially at this price. You’ll still get a good camera, good performance, and a great display. I’ve been using the Xiaomi…

Xiaomi 12T Pro review: A flagship Android phone for less

At a glanceExpert's Rating ProsFantastic performanceSuper-fast charger included in boxCapable main and selfie camerasConsBland looksSub-par supporting rear camerasNo IP ratingOur VerdictIf it weren’t for the Edge 30 Ultra, which has better specs but is only slightly more expensive, the Xiaomi 12T Pro would be relatively easy to recommend. As it is, most people are better off with Motorola’s phone. If Xiaomi is a brand that’s still unfamiliar – and unpronounceable – to you, then it’s high time that situation changed.…

The Xiaomi 12T Pro’s 200-megapixel camera is overkill

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is one of the first smartphones with a 200-megapixel camera. Unless you’re making wall-sized gallery prints, that’s about 150 megapixels too many. I took the 12T Pro to Seattle’s spacious Central Library to put every one of those pixels to work. Many gigabytes later, I’m here to tell you that you’re not missing much with your 12 or 50-megapixel smartphone camera. Why would anyone want a 200-megapixel camera in the first place? There are two things you can do with a very high-resolution image. First, you…

Xiaomi 12T Pro review: A camera rollercoaster

Xiaomi is pushing boundaries. There was a time when it seemed like the only thing about smartphone cameras that mattered was “how many megapixels” they offered. These days, things are much more complex — but a high camera resolution can still be impressive. The new Xiaomi 12T Pro, for example, boasts a camera with a massive 200-megapixel resolution. But a phone still has to do more than just offer a high-resolution camera to compete. Does the Xiaomi 12T Pro do enough to justify a relatively high price? Well,…

Weekly poll results: Xiaomi 12T series divides opinions

The Xiaomi 12T Pro has an ace up its sleeve – a 200MP camera. Unfortunately, the only other cards it has tucked up there are an 8 and a 2. That’s not a strong hand and potential buyers are divided on whether this phone is a good pick. Interestingly, some commenters under last week’s poll look at the 12T Pro as an affordable Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone that is a solid choice for gaming. The fastest Android chipset of 2022 is paired with the “biggest-ever” vapor chamber on a Xiaomi T-series, also there is a large 5,000mAh…

Xiaomi 12T Review: Exciting, But Not Exceptional

At a glanceExpert's Rating ProsSolid performance Great cameras for the price 120W fast chargingImpressively affordableConsUnderwhelming battery life MIUI not for everyoneNo wireless chargingOur VerdictWith the 12T, Xiaomi has managed to deliver flagship performance and cameras at a mid-range price. But patchy battery life and MIUI prevent it from being an easy recommendation. Xiaomi releases dozens of phones every year, so it can be hard to figure out where new releases fit in the company’s lineup.  The 12T Series…

Weekly poll: the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro are selling high megapixel counts, are you buying?

Two hundred megapixels – that’s how far smartphone cameras have come. Back when we started “this phone has a camera” was enough to make jaws drop. These days it's not only about raw resolution, image processing has come a long way (especially with the advent of computational photography) thanks to the ever more powerful mobile chipsets. A few weeks ago the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra got the thumbs up from fans, now it has competition – the Xiaomi 12T Pro, which uses the same 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor. Same Snapdragon 8+ Gen…

Xiaomi 12T Pro Review: Almost A Flagship Killer

Xiaomi 12T Pro is the mid-year refresh on their flagship series. Albeit, Xiaomi typically introduces a stellar upgrade on the T series and then trims other features from the Pro model launched earlier in the year to keep the price competitive. In keeping with tradition, the Xiaomi 12T Pro has a brand new 200MP main camera on the rear. And it still has the stellar 120W HyperCharge support that was first introduced on the Xiaomi 11T Pro last year.Hardware design is greatly improved from last yearAt first glance from the…
