How to mirror your smartphone or tablet on your TV

Modern smart TVs have come a long way and have all kinds of built-in abilities to deliver everything from our favorite streaming services and YouTube videos to video games, video conferencing, and even web browsing our big, bright TVs. But with the millions of other things that our phones and tablets can do — photos and videos and apps abound — sometimes you just need to share it all on a big TV screen for everyone to see. How can you mirror from a phone or tablet to a TV, you ask? If you have the right gear, it's…

Apple is making AirPlay and content sharing better in your home, hotel room, and car

Unlike Google during its I/O event, Apple refrained from saying "AI" during WWDC 2023. However, artificial intelligence is an undeniable part of the future of tech and an intrinsic part of many of Apple's products, so the company did share some AI upgrades to its software coming this fall. For AirPlay specifically, Apple is making it possible for your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to use on-device intelligence to learn your AirPlay preferences through machine learning (ML). Your devices can know what you like to listen to, at what…

Apple’s Second Attempt at the HomePod is Not a Redemption

I’ve already made my Android-leaning ways known here at Gizmodo. When Apple announced it was updating the HomePod smart speaker, I didn’t understand why it was a big deal—or why my Apple pals had such high hopes for and worries about it. Then I realized it was because Apple flubbed the first HomePod, which very quickly got a price drop after its release and was then discontinued. There was hope that this model would fix what didn’t work in the last one and would redeem it, especially since the HomePod Mini had offered

Spotify lax on HomePod support, promises to add AirPlay 2 support “eventually

Spotify has had disagreements with Apple for a while now. The company has been critical of Apple's approach toward apps. Spotify even maintains a public tab (opens in new tab) of all the Apple decisions that have been unfair towards the company. Apple had even launched the HomePod without Spotify support. While Apple has since then added support for Spotify on the HomePod, the app still doesn't work on it. That's because Spotify is yet to add support for HomePod, and it doesn't have plans to do it anytime soon, either,…

The Sonos Era 300 is the Best Premium Speaker For Apple Users

Admittedly, this is my first time with a Sonos speaker—ever. The brand was always too far out of my price range for me to consider over the years, and I’m not what you would call an “audiophile.” I am a person who listens to the same five songs over and over again in pursuit of a “vibe.” To be fair, the Sonos Era 300's coupling of powerful compression drivers certainly filled my office with a feeling. But $450 is too much for a speaker that doesn’t work within my Google-led smart home. The Era 300 is the first Sonos…

Apple HomePod (2nd Gen) Review: More Capable Than It Looks

The Apple HomePod range of smart speakers may not be the obvious choice in the category for many buyers, because of its very obvious ecosystem-based optimisations. However, those who are suitably invested in Apple's hardware will see some benefit to this, particularly the ease with which the smart speaker is able to link and work with other Apple devices. The original HomePod was launched globally in 2018, and five years later it finally sees a successor which promises better features and performance.Priced at Rs. 32,900,…
