The Clitoris Has Been Lost to Science for Centuries, but It’s Making a Comeback

In October researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University announced that they approximated the number of nerve fibers in the human clitoris that are responsible for sexual pleasure—more than 10,000—for the first time ever. In comparison with the penis, which has been studied extensively, the vulva has been largely ignored in anatomical study. “I mean, like, the general story of the clitoris is that it appears to have been lost and found throughout history,” says Rachel E. Gross, a science journalist and author…

We May Finally Know How Many Nerve Endings Are in The Human Clitoris : ScienceAlert

The human clitoris is a scientific iceberg, both physically and figuratively. In the past, research on our species' clitoris has been superficial at best, and even the tiny bit that we think we know now is not always right. The clitoris is often said to house 8,000 nerve endings – 'double' that of the penis – but new findings, presented at a scientific meeting in October, suggest that's a serious underestimation of both sex organs. The study is not yet peer-reviewed, but at least the results are on track to be properly…

The Clitoris Has 10,000 Nerve Endings, Study Finds

Folded pink clothImage: JpegPhotographer (Shutterstock)Here’s a new piece of trivia to toss out at a party sometime: The human clitoris seems to contain more than 10,000 nerve endings. Researchers this month are apparently the first to try counting the precise number of nerve fibers located in the pleasure-giving organ, using tissue samples taken from human volunteers. The findings surpass previous estimates, which were based on studying other animals. The new research was led by scientists from Oregon Health & Science
