You might not be aware of it, but the Apple Watch that's on your wrist right now actually has a built-in flashlight. It's pretty bright for what it is, but things could be much, much better. It appears that someone at Apple agrees because a new patent suggests that Apple is keen to find a way to make the Apple Watch's flashlight brighter than it already is. This illustration shows NASA’s Lunar Flashlight over the Moon. NASA’s Lunar Flashlight mission, launched in December 2022 with the objective of locating surface ice on the Moon’s South Pole, has been ended due to the inability of its miniaturized propulsion system to generate sufficient thrust to achieve lunar orbit. Despite this setback, several technology demonstrations on the mission, including the propulsion system, green fuel, Sphinx flight computer, and upgraded Iris radio, exceeded expectations, providing valuable…

NASA ends its Lunar Flashlight mission

NASA has pulled the plug on its Lunar Flashlight project, which was designed to look for sources of ice on our nearest neighbor. The agency spent the last few months trying, and failing, to get the craft to generate the necessary amount of thrust to get the small satellite to its intended destination. Officials say that the issue was likely caused by debris buildup in the fuel lines, which prevented the CubeSat from working to its full potential.  The “briefcase sized” Lunar Flashlight first launched in December, and was…
