Nvidia just fixed a major issue with its GPUs

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends If you’ve been unhappy with the performance of your graphics card lately, you might want to check out Nvidia’s latest beta driver. This is a hotfix driver, which is pretty unusual for Nvidia, but it can be helpful if you’ve been dealing with micro-stuttering, both in games and on the desktop. The update addresses four issues in total, but to get it, you’ll have to dig a little deeper than the standard path of updating your drivers. Nvidia typically bundles bug fixes with its usual Game…

The best GPUs if you’re upgrading from a GTX 1650

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends Nvidia’s GTX 1650 is nothing short of a legendary graphics card. The humble, budget-focused GPU has achieved a massive status among PC gamers, sitting at the top of the Steam hardware survey for years. It’s taken a back seat to Nvidia’s newer RTX 3060 in recent months, but it’s still owned by around 4% to 5% of gamers who take part in the Steam hardware survey. It’s starting to age out of relevance, however. The GTX 1650 is four years old, and it’s struggling to keep up with modern games…

The prices of some GPUs are rapidly dropping

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the prices of some of the best graphics cards are rapidly dropping. We just got off a month of hardware launches, spearheaded by Nvidia’s RTX 40-series Super refresh, and those launches have caused some major shifts in the prices of older GPUs. The most prominent example of that is the RTX 4070 Ti. Nvidia released its RTX 4070 Ti Super about two weeks ago. The Super version is set to replace the base model, but plenty of units remain in stock. Now, you…

Two faster GPUs, one better deal

But what of the new RTX 4070 Ti? It's stuck right between its two siblings, with no clear audience. After all, if you're ready to spend $799 on a video card, stretching a bit more for the 4080 Super might make more sense for the additional power. Otherwise, you might as well just get the 4070 Super, overclock it a bit, and spend the extra $200 on another SSD or more RAM. It's a conundrum entirely of NVIDIA's making, one that might have been solved by giving the 4070 Ti Super a slight $50 discount. (And it's even more…

The RTX 4080 Super doesn’t move the needle — and it doesn’t need to

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends I suspect the RTX 4080 Super will be disappointing to some people. That doesn’t make much sense, considering the RTX 4080 Super will replace the base RTX 4080, but for a market fixated on generational improvements and small percentage wins, it looks like a disappointing GPU. Nvidia set the bar low, claiming performance improvements in the low single digits. The tests I ran for our RTX 4080 Super review show even smaller gains — around 1% on average, often rounded up from less than a…

GPUs are on an apology tour

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends There’s no better way to reverse bad press than a genuine apology tour. GPUs are on a bit of one right now in an attempt to win back the goodwill of PC gamers with juiced-up specs, better pricing, and some fancy new branding. Most obviously, we can see this with Nvidia’s RTX 40-series Super GPUs, but AMD is also throwing its hat in the ring with the RX 7600 XT, too. Nvidia and AMD are responding to the rather disappointing year that GPUs just had, and in the process, they’re proving…

Nvidia’s RTX GPUs can now upgrade SDR content to HDR using AI

Nvidia is launching a new feature for all RTX GPU owners today: RTX Video HDR. Much like how Nvidia’s RTX Video Super Resolution can upscale old, blurry web videos, RTX Video HDR uses AI to convert SDR color space video to HDR. You just need an HDR10-compatible monitor with HDR enabled in Windows.RTX Video HDR is part of today’s 551.23 Game Ready driver release for the new RTX 4070 Ti Super launch. The Video HDR feature works in both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, and during my testing on an HDR600 monitor, I noticed…

Here are all the upcoming GPUs set to launch this year

Nvidia The last year brought us plenty of releases from both Nvidia and AMD, including some of the best GPUs currently available. We’ve seen some hits, but also some cards that could classify as disastrous misses. What can we expect in 2024? Although only a few GPUs have been confirmed so far, chances are that we’ll see several more models by the time the year comes to a close. Here’s what Nvidia, AMD, and Intel might be cooking up in 2024. Nvidia RTX 40 Super Nvidia’s RTX 40 series refresh hasn’t been a mystery for…
