Elon Musk’s private jet isn’t so private thanks to trackers

Owning a private plane just isn’t what it used to be.Citing security risks and privacy rights, the wealthiest of ultra-wealthy jet owners have had it with tracking websites and social media accounts dedicated to pinpointing their exact whereabouts as they move through the skies.Last week Elon Musk, the world’s second-richest man, suspended dozens of Twitter accounts belonging to a 20-year-old college student who had been posting the routes of private jets, including Musk’s Gulfstream G650. “Any account doxxing real-time…

The Autobahn’s upcoming wireless EV charging isn’t for you

As we’re moving towards an EV-dominated future, efforts to introduce wireless on-road charging systems are increasing. Now, Germany’s famous Autobahn will welcome its own wireless charging system — although it won’t be available to individual EV drivers. Instead, it will power a public bus transporting passengers to the city of Balingen. The technology will be provided by Israeli wireless charging company Electreon, which will collaborate with German EnBW — an EV charging infrastructure…

Why Recycling Isn’t the Answer to the Plastic Pollution Problem

Plastic pollution is recognized as being one of the major global environmental challenges today, with a worldwide reach that is affecting essential Earth systems such as the climate and biodiversity. As a result, in March the United Nations Environment Programme declared its intention to develop a treaty by 2024 to “end plastic pollution”. However, although the declaration lays out overall aims for reducing plastic pollution, it does not mention any specific policy measures (see go.nature.com/3rgujfc). An efficient and…

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Buster Sword Controller Isn’t Practical, But Is Extremely Cool

Final Fantasy VII Remake can now be played with a Buster Sword controller, thanks to the ingenuity of controller-making maestro Super Louis 64.In a video uploaded to Twitter over the weekend, Louis shows how his latest controller build can detect inputs like slashes, guards, and thrusts while battling some of the game's early Shinra guard enemies. The only problem is thrusting and swinging a giant, heavy sword to play a video game isn't exactly practical, but that's not exactly the point. Even if Louis…

End of Amazon? Amazon Is Ubiquitous. But It Isn’t Invincible Anymore

The firm has written the rules of modern retail. After a disappointing year, it may not be able to keep winning at its own game. Amazon.com Inc.'s founder has long been obsessed with the company's beginning — and its end.In 2013, Jeff Bezos told 60 Minutes that companies have short life spans, “even the shiniest and most important of any era.” In his final letter to shareholders as CEO in 2021, with Amazon valued at more than $1.5 trillion, he quoted a book by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins to suggest that the

Why NASA’s Space Launch System isn’t sustainable

NASA’s Space Launch System just completed the first leg of the Artemis I mission, delivering one of the most promising space exploration missions to the stars. But just because it succeeded doesn’t make it the most sustainable option. In fact, according to NASA’s cost and plans for the Artemis missions, the NASA SLS rocket isn’t actually sustainable at all. According to information shared earlier this year, NASA’s SLS rocket costs over $4 billion to build, and because it isn’t reusable, every mission that NASA…
