Dreamy rhythm game Melatonin hits PS5 this month with lo-fi beats to fall asleep to

If you’ve been dreaming about another platform for the stylishly sleepy rhythm game Melatonin, there’s no need to pinch yourself. Developer Half Asleep announced plans to bring its chill beats to PlayStation 5 on March 12, 2024.  True to the name of the devs themselves, Melatonin is all about bridging that gap between our reality and the world of dreams. Naturally, the best way to do so is through the lens of a rhythm game, complete with an appropriately dreamlike color palette and audio and visual cues that get the beat…

Torture Star Video is bringing lo-fi slasher horror Cannibal Abduction to console

Torture Star Video, the publishing arm of Puppet Combo, is bringing Tomás Esconjaureguy’s slasher adventure, Cannibal Abduction, to consoles. It will arrive on Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on February 8, 2024. Tomás Esconjaureguy previously brought us The Night of the Scissors back in 2022, which sounds like a localization title for Clock Tower. Cannibal Abduction followed in 2023 on PC, where it was self-published by Selewi, Esconjaureguy’s publishing label. As is standard for cannibal stories and common in…

Airframe Ultra is a gritty, lo-fi hoverbike game from Rain World devs

These bikes don’t work over water unless you’ve got POWER! Akupara Games has announced that they’ll be publishing Videocult’s upcoming lo-fi hoverbike game, Airframe Ultra. Unless you count all the rust, Airframe Ultra is quite a departure from Videocult’s previous game, Rain World. In this one, you ride around on a hoverbike, winning races and eliminating the competition. While the trailer gives a good long look at the gameplay, both it and the press release I got with it suggest that there’s still much to do in…

Lo-fi horror puzzler The Tartarus Key scares up May 31 release date

Trapped in another house Vertical Reach and publisher Armor Games Studios have announced that their puzzle-focused retro horror title, The Tartarus Key, is chambered for a May 31, 2023 release. Putting you in the shoes of the hapless Alex Young, The Tartarus Key takes place in a bizarre mansion where doors are locked with all manner of puzzles. Lifting the aesthetics of the PS1, it promises a horror experience without the use of jump-scares. That’s a fairly common goal for horror games. Hopefully, they can pull off the…

Lo-fi horror Sniper Killer coming from creators of Bloodwash – Destructoid

Qu’est-ce que c’est? Torture Star Video has announced the next game from Bloodwash duo Black Eyed Priest and Henry Hoare, Sniper Killer. The short-form horror game is due for release on PC sometime in 2023. The twist in Sniper Killer is that you control both the eponymous sharpshooter and a detective trying to stop them. While the sniper has the goal of simply delivering high-caliber snacks into the faces of their victims, Detective Comardy is searching for clues and trying to end the killings. The information on…

Lofi Girl is back and she made a synthwave friend

After a day-long absence, Lofi Girl has returned. If you missed , she went missing as part of an elaborate marketing campaign that saw the Lofi Girl team promise a “surprise” that would take the channel to “new heights.” In the end, that surprise turned out to be a new 24-hour livestream dedicated to synthwave music, a subgenre of electronic music that seeks to emulate the sound and feel of classic sci-fi and horror soundtracks from the '80s.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVPTGNGiI-4 Naturally, the new channel has its…

Lofi Girl is at the center of a very relaxing mystery

Since 2017, Jade – aka the face of the Lofi Girl YouTube channel – has been a near-constant companion for fans of quiet, contemplative music. Now, she is missing. At approximately 1PM ET, Jade and her ginger tabby simply disappeared, and not since a took down the YouTube channel for a few days last year has the Lofi Girl fandom been this abuzz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfKfPfyJRdk In her absence, the stream began to slowly zoom in on a window found on one of the buildings opposite Jade’s home. A blinking blue…

Lo-fi horror game Rewind or Die is done asking nicely April 14

What kind of monster doesn’t rewind? Puppet Combo’s publishing label, Torture Star Video, has announced they’ll be releasing Comp-3 Interactive’s game, Rewind or Die, on April 14, 2023. This seems like something I need to play. Rewind or Die has you playing as a video rental store worker who finds themselves stalked by a slasher. You’ll work your shift on your own as your co-workers flaked out on you. However, as a slave to an uncaring society, you just need to keep your head down while receiving threatening phone…

Lo-fi sci-fi title Duskers is next week’s Epic Games Store freebie – Destructoid

It’s lonely out in space… Epic Games Store has revealed the next game that it will be offering up to its community of customers free of charge next week — And for our next freebie we’ll be looking at the desolate sci-fi strategy title Duskers, which will be available to download by all from February 23. Developed by husband-and-wife indie studio Misfits Attic and released way back in 2016, Duskers sees players managing a small squadron of drones as they attempt to locate, explore, and salvage a series of lonely and…

Congress Has a Lo-Fi Plan to Fix the Classified Documents Mess

The fear and trepidation over accidentally letting a secret slip is also hammered into lawmakers’ intelligence staffers, who handle the classified material as further protection against absent-minded members of Congress. To get a security clearance, these staffers undergo purposefully intimidating, invasive, and multi-stepped background checks conducted by either the Pentagon or FBI, and sometimes both. Even after being cleared, new hires are forbidden to start until they sign a nondisclosure agreement—effectively sealing…
