Sony Temporarily Pulls the Plug on PSVR2 Production

Photo: ESOlex (Shutterstock)Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 is barely a year old, and it appears it’s not catching on like the PS5 when it launched in 2020. There are so many PSVR2 headsets unsold that Sony put the production of new units on hold, according to a Bloomberg report Monday.Since its launch in Feb. 2023, Sony produced approximately 2 million PSVR2 units, each with a price tag of $550. However, the virtual reality headset has yet to take off with only 300,000 sold in the weeks after launch, as reported by Bloomberg

Microsoft to pull the plug on Amazon’s Android app store for Windows 11

screenshot by Lance Whitney/ZDNETHow many of you have ever installed and run Android apps from Amazon's app store on Windows 11? Raise your hands. OK, that's what I thought. Well, I hate to break it to the three of you who raised your hands, but you only have one year left to enjoy Amazon's app store. That's right: Microsoft has announced that it's killing off support for the retail giant's Android app store on March 5, 2025. When that fateful day arrives, you'll no longer be able to access the app store to download…

Plug In South LA helps build diverse startups in a traditionally underserved area

Derek Smith, the founder of Plug In South LA, grew up in southern Los Angeles and saw first-hand the frustration that stems from lack of economic development. That’s why he decided to come home in 2015, after spending the first part of his career in NYC, to start a startup incubator in his old neighborhood. He wanted to help aspiring entrepreneurs learn the ropes of growing a startup, and hoped that in the process, building these businesses could help bring higher-paying jobs to the area. Smith already knew that…

Scientists Demonstrate Effective Fusion “Spark Plug” in Groundbreaking Experiments

A a view from inside the OMEGA target chamber during a direct-drive inertial fusion experiment at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Scientists fired 28 kilojoules of laser energy at small capsules filled with deuterium and tritium fuel, causing the capsules to implode and produce a plasma hot enough to initiate fusion reactions between the fuel nuclei. The temperatures achieved at the heart of these implosions are as high as 100 million degrees Celsius (180 million degrees Fahrenheit). The…

Germany pulls the plug on subsidies for electric trucks

Like it did with passenger EV rebates back in December, Germany has decided to pull the plug on subsidy programs for electric semi trucks and city buses. What happens to the nation’s commercial EV market now? If you’re a regular Electrek reader, you probably believe that Germany acted prematurely when it cut its EV subsidy program in December (a full year earlier than expected). Combined with rapid global inflation driving up vehicle prices and governments throughout the EU pouring money into hydrogen…

Meesho taps micro-entrepreneurs to plug gaps in India’s supply chain network

India is one of the fastest growing economies, yet its supply chain system remains antiquated, operating much as it did decades ago. The logistics sector is highly fragmented, with a majority of small, regional operators lacking scale and efficiency. Regional truckers still rely on brokers and word-of-mouth to secure cargo, while severe truck shortages in urban manufacturing hubs delay transport of goods. And that’s a problem for India’s rapidly expanding e-commerce sector — and the players…

Boeing 737 Max 9 plane that lost door plug was missing bolts

The Boeing 737 Max 9 airplane that made an emergency landing last month after its door plug blew out in midair was missing four bolts that would have prevented the panel from moving upward, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board. As part of the NTSB’s investigation, the agency found that the “absence of contact damage or deformation” around holes associated with vertical movement bolts indicate that four bolts “that prevent upward movement” of the door panel were missing before the…

Alaska Airlines jet’s door plug is missing bolts meant to secure it

Four bolts meant to keep the door plug on a Boeing 737 Max 9 from shifting up, then blowing wide open during flight are missing, and investigators are trying to determine what role, if any, they played in the frightening midair episode over Portland, Ore., last week. Minutes after Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 departed Portland International Airport for Ontario on Friday, the plane’s left door plug, which fills in an additional emergency exit that Alaska was not using in its modified layout of the 737 Max 9, blew open at…

Alaska flight door plug found, but cockpit audio is lost

As investigators examine what caused a panel on an Alaska Airlines plane bound for Southern California to blow off midflight, forcing an emergency landing in Portland, federal officials Sunday pointed out a major obstacle: The cockpit voice recorder, or black box, from the Friday night flight was erased. Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, said at a news conference that after Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 returned to Portland International Airport, no one pulled the circuit breaker on the…
