Threads by Instagram is now finally available in Europe

0 15

Meta launched Threads, a text-based social media platform from Instagram that’s a direct rival to X (previously known as Twitter), in July this year. Back then, the company made Threads available in 100 countries, including the US and the UK. However, the countries in the European Union weren’t on the list. That’s changing today.

The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, has announced that Threads is now available in Europe, opening up the social media platform to 448 million people in the region. Along with that, the company is giving people in Europe the ability to browse Threads without creating an account on the platform. This option isn’t available for people in other regions. However, one needs to create an account on Threads to post anything on it.

What took Meta so long to bring Threads to Europe?

Back in July, a Senior Communications Manager at Instagram, Christine Pai, suggested that the company couldn’t launch Threads in Europe along with other countries because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, also suggested the same reason, saying that Meta had to delay the launch of Threads in Europe due to “the complexities with complying with some of the laws coming into effect next year.

Nonetheless, Threads has finally arrived in Europe, giving people who don’t want to be on X a great alternative. While the text-based social media platform from Meta lacks many features that its competitor offers, the company is adding features at a rapid pace. You can download the Threads app on Android and iOS from the App Store and the Play Store respectively. You can also use Threads on the web.
