Vivo has launched its second-generation foldable – X Fold2 – in China. The smartphone features a 120Hz AMOLED inner and outer display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a 50MP triple camera setup. Here’s everything you need to know.

Vivo X Fold2: Price, availability

Vivo X Fold2 starts at CNY 8,999 (around Rs 1,07,455). It is available for pre-orders and will go on sale in China starting from April 28th.

Vivo X Fold2: Specifications, features, and more
The X Fold2 features an 8.03-inch 2K+ internal and 6.53-inch FHD external E6 AMOLED LTPO, with a 120Hz refresh rate. The inner and outer display has a Schott UTG glass cover and supports the 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner inside and outside.

Vivo’s latest smartphone features an upgraded hinge that is ultra-durable and lightweight. It uses self-developed FS54 material, which the company claims to be aviation-grade with high strength and lightweight. This hinge has undergone rigorous testing, including the Rheinland 40W fold-free, worry-free test, ensuring its durability.

The hinge has a larger water drop shape with a diameter of 5mm, compared to 4.6mm in previous models such as the X Fold and X Fold+, promising an improved design and functionality.

Compared to the first-gen X Fold, the X Fold2 is thinner by 2mm and lighter by 33g. The hinge parts have been reduced by 83 compared to the previous model, resulting in a 30% reduction in hinge weight. Additionally, the folding life of the new X Fold2 has been increased by 33%, allowing it to achieve a remarkable 400,000 folding cycles, according to the company.

Powering the Vivo X Fold2 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The company says that X Fold2 has the new-gen SPU security chip. Furthermore, the folding smartphone features a 2448 metre square vapour chamber liquid cooling area. The X Fold2 runs Android 13-based OriginOS 3.

The X Fold2 features a 4800mAh battery. It comes with support for 120W charging that can charge it to 100% in 26 minutes, along with support for 50W wireless charging.

The 50MP IMXC866 sensor comes with VCS bionic spectrum technology, a joint development by Vivo and Sony, which reduces noise by 20% and enhances colour reproduction by 15%. Then, there is a 12MP IMX663 sensor and a 12MP portrait telephoto camera.

The lenses feature Zeiss T coating for clarity. Additionally, the device is powered by the company’s imaging chip V2, which significantly increases brightness and uses extreme noise reduction when capturing night scenes, resulting in well-exposed highlights and detailed dark areas, promises the company.
