The Chennai-based builder purchased the Rolls-Royce Spectre for Rs 7.5 crore even before the car’s official India launch.
The Spectre, the first-ever all-electric vehicle (EV) from British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce, has finally been launched in India.
It is the most expensive four-wheeled electric vehicle available to private buyers in the country, with a price tag of Rs 7.5 crore (ex-showroom).
Surprisingly, a builder in Chennai purchased this electric sedan two months before its official release, which makes it all the more intriguing. Videos and images from the delivery of India’s first Rolls-Royce Spectre to the Chennai-based builder were posted online back in November 2023.
The electric sedan was delivered to Baashyaam Yuvaraj of Baashyaam Constructions, an infrastructure builder located in Chennai. The Rolls-Royce Spectre was finished in the Monteverde grey colour, as seen in the delivery video posted by a YouTube channel Wheels Hub. Notably, the modest owner of the construction company arrived with his son to accept the delivery, dressed in casual jeans, a T-shirt, and chappals. Many praised the Spectre’s owner on social media for his modesty.

A 102kWh battery pack with a 530km WLTP cycle range powers the Spectre. In contrast, the EQS and EQS AMG, each with a 107.4kWh battery, have single-charge ranges of 857 km and 580 km, respectively. A 195kW charger can charge the Spectre’s battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 34 minutes, compared to 95 minutes with a 50kW DC charger.
The Spectre’s two electric motors under the hood have a combined output of 585 horsepower and 900 Nm. With these specifications, the 2,890kg Spectre can reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The Spectre, which was first introduced in 2003, is based on Rolls-Royce’s “Architecture of Luxury,” an all-aluminum space frame architecture. In addition, it has four-wheel steering, active suspension, and a thirty per cent stiffer design than earlier models.
The Rolls-Royce silhouette is preserved by the Spectre’s design, which includes a fastback tail, a long bonnet, and a sleek profile. Drawing inspiration from contemporary yacht concepts, the car’s design features the widest Rolls-Royce grille ever, created for optimal aerodynamic performance. The Spectre is claimed to be the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce to date, with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
The Spectre’s interior is just as luxurious as that of current Rolls-Royce models. Customers can choose wood panelling for the doors, and a noteworthy addition is the starlight liner, which is now integrated into the door pads. The passenger side dashboard has more than 5,500 lights that resemble stars.
The new “Spirit” software platform from Rolls-Royce, which acts as the digital interface for connected car technology, is one noteworthy feature. Unlike the infotainment software that was previously derived from BMW, Spirit offers a variety of customisation options. Users can even alter the colour of the dials to match the interior.
