Weekly poll results: the vivo X Fold+ is off to a good start

Foldable phones are a big deal in the premium smartphone market right now, but some are closer to perfecting the formula than others. As last week’s poll shows, a few tweaks to the X Fold formula produce a potential hot seller.

There isn’t that much difference between the original and the vivo X Fold+, but all the changes are important. Starting from the outside, that new red colorway looks great and some commenters are really digging it.

Going below the surface, the upgrade to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a welcome one for its efficiency. Combined with the slightly larger battery it is enough to give the Plus a decent boost in battery life. The battery is a common limitation for foldables, so any improvement is good news.

Right now this is just window shopping for many as vivo is yet to announce plans of a global rollout of the X Fold+ (the original still isn’t available globally). Also, potential buyers would feel better about their purchase if vivo committed to a longer software support window, especially on pricey models such as this one.

PS. there was a debate in the comments on the merits of rollable phones versus foldable ones. Oppo was showing off a prototype rollable phone a couple of years ago using a BOE display, but it didn’t follow through with a retail device. vivo itself trademarked the name “vivo NEX ROLL” (as well as “NEX SLIDE” and “NEX FOLD”), though it hasn’t even made a prototype yet (as far as we know).
