0 80

Here they are – the most important foldable flagships to launch this year, at least if you live outside of China (which more variety). Is now finally the time to get your first foldable? Or are you looking to upgrade an existing one? Of course, some of you are already starting to type “I don’t want a foldable” – don’t worry, you will have your say too.

For a more detailed look at the new foldables, check out our hands-on review. We also have pricing information for the US and Europe and you can check out the infographics and promo videos for a quick look at the new gadgets.

How has the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 changed compared to the Z Fold3? It uses wider and shorter screens (by a few millimeters, but still), while keeping the dimensions mostly the same (slightly smaller, actually). More noticeable is the camera improvement with a new 50MP sensor in the main module (up from 12MP) and a 10MP telephoto camera with a longer focal length (3x magnification instead of 2x). We haven’t had the opportunity to test them yet, that is something that will have to wait for the review.

Anyway, the phone features the faster Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a faster version of Samsung’s 25W charging (the 4,400mAh battery goes from zero to 50% in 30 minutes). Plus, there are some improvements to using apps on the large 7.6” internal display and in Flex Mode, though those will probably make their way to the older model as well.

As our pricing tables show, the Galaxy Z Fold4 starts at $1,800/€1,800, the same as the Z Fold3 last year. Will you be picking one up? Note: if the poll widget below isn’t working for you, try casting your vote here.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 brings a couple of major upgrades of its own. It has a larger battery, 3,700mAh vs. 3,300mAh, which is also the same size as the battery on the small S22. And charging has been upgraded to 25W (up from 15W). Seeing how battery life was a major issue of the Z Flip phones so far this may well be the most important change.

However, you get the same 6.7” FHD+ 120Hz inner display, same 1.9” cover display. The camera setup still features two 12MP modules (wide + ultra wide), but the wide one got a much bigger sensor (1/1.76″ with 1.8µm pixels, up from 1/2.55″ 1.4µm). Samsung claims the new sensor captures 65% more light.

The change to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is appreciated, if nothing else because the 888 was not too kind to batteries.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 debuts at $1,000/€1,100 for the regular version (8/128GB) and $1,040/€1,200 for the Bespoke Edition (8/256GB). Note that in the US there is a temporary promo that gives you a free memory upgrade (this is true for the Z Fold4 as well). As for the European price, it went up €50 compared to last year.

Can the Z Flip4 talk you into going back to the clamshell lifestyle? You can also vote using this link if the poll widget below is giving you trouble.

Normally, we’d point to competing designs, but not much is available outside of China. For example, Honor didn’t say if and when the Magic V will be available globally. The Moto Razr 2022 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 were unveiled today, but again only with details for the launch in China. As for Google and Apple’s foldables, those are just rumors for now.
