Xiaomi EV technology launch event

Xiaomi’s Stride event suggests the company has made or intends to make quick long steps in the EV space. As mentioned earlier, Xiaomi plans to unveil just the tech behind its EV on December 28th at 14:00 GMT+8 or 11:30 am IST. So, we are still far from seeing an electric Xiaomi car on stage.

However, in the past, we have come across some alleged photos of the Xiaomi car. Mr Jun has also given interviews about this EV endeavour being his “last entrepreneurship“. So, let’s catch up to every detail that’s out there.

Xiaomi electric car rumour roundup

  • The global EV demand has seen a 34-percent growth in Q3, 2023 and China is a market leader with record sales. So, one can see why Xiaomi is entering the space. However, Mr Jun is more worried about timely meeting the surging demand. He has shared this concern in past interviews while also showing determination in taking on companies like Tesla.
  • The company has about 3,400 engineers working in the EV department and has got over $1.4 billion for this venture.
  • A few months back, Xiaomi got approval from the Chinese state planner NDRC for EV manufacturing.
  • Furthermore, from the Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) which checks for technical safety requisites, we have learned there will be 3 variants of the Xiaomi car namely Xiaomi Smart Speed Ultra 7 (SU7 EV), SU7 Pro EV and the SU7 Max EV.
  • We have also come across the camouflaged photos of the car recently. You can check this article for other details of the car like a LiDAR sensor, active wing, flush door handles, slopped bonnet, thin headlights, small mirrors, a three-spoke steering wheel, an infotainment centre with possibly HyperOS support, etc.
  • In the meantime, the company has already built a factory in Beijing that can manufacture 200,000 EVs a year. In 2025, it aims to make 100,000 EVs at this facility. It could also repurpose exciting Xiaomi stores as car showrooms
