Chinese media has a ‘Tesla warning’ for Elon Musk

0 44

The United States Department of Energy has shared a report with a “low confidence” assessment of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The report claims that the pandemic originated in a laboratory in China’s Wuhan province. Twitter’s owner Elon Musk has recently tweeted about the new report. According to a report by CNBC, the Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times has warned Musk for advancing a “conspiracy theory” about the pandemic with his Wuhan ‘lab leak’ tweets. The warning read that Musk could be “breaking the pot of China.” Eunice Yoon, NBC News’ Beijing Bureau Chief has tweeted about the warning that the Chinese newspaper made. The tweet claimed that the phrase used in the warning means “biting the hand that feeds you.”

After the US, China is reportedly the second largest market for Tesla. The report also mentions that an ‘expansive factory campus’ of Tesla is also situated in Shanghai. Musk has not yet issued any statement regarding this issue. Beijing is also known for targeting companies that share ‘hostile’ comments by imposing restrictions that cripple their business in the country.

What do the reports about the Covid-19 pandemic say
The report issued by the US Department of Energy concluded with “low confidence” that the COVID-19 pandemic began in a Wuhan laboratory. However, sources familiar with the matter have suggested that the conclusion was not considered ‘hugely significant.’

In 2021, the US-based security agency FBI reached a similar conclusion at a “moderate confidence” level. FBI Director Christopher Wray has also commented on the latest report by the US Department of Energy. Wray suggested that China has “been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate” the research done by the US Government.

The report mentions that Wray has also shared a tweet about the origins of the pandemic. The tweet reads, “The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan… I will just make the observation that the Chinese government… has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate the work here, the work that our US government and close foreign partners are doing,”

However, in October 2022, a Chinese official reportedly praised Musk for suggesting increased control of China over Taiwan in the form of a special economic zone. Last week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also released a list of “hegemonic” misdeeds taken up by the US. This list cited Musk’s accusations of government censorship on Twitter as proof of the US “abuse” of the international community.
