Chrome Web Store gets a design refresh, here’s what has changed

0 103

It has been a while since updated the Chrome Web Store. Over the year, the online web store started looking dated and it was due for a major update. The update is finally here and Google has finally given the Chrome Web Store a much-needed design refresh based on the Material You theme.

Update rollout
Google first previewed the redesigned Chrome Web Store and now it has rolled it out to all users globally. Meaning, everyone from across the globe will see the new updated Chrome Web Store interface going forward.

What has changed

As mentioned, Chrome Web Store has undergone a major design refresh based on the Material You design language that we see with Android. This changes almost everything including the page layout, the way apps have been placed and more. Simply put, the Chrome Web Store looks very similar to the Play Store after the recent update.

Chrome Web Store is a lot more minimalist than it used to be. It gets a prominent slider at the top with a carousel-like interface that shows some of the popular extensions and themes available. The left-hand sidebar is gone now and so does the endless scrolling.

Instead, Google has added categories where users can see some popular extensions in each category with the “See more” button at the top right corner. Moreover, there’s a dedicated “Top categories” option at the top along with a dedicated “You might like” section and “Editor’s Choice” section.

Then there’s the “Collections” section which bundles up extensions or themes that Google has handpicked for specific needs of the users.

The listing page of the extensions remains more or less similar, except the rounded corners for every listing and the entire page.
