The suing spree seems to be certainly on for Elon Musk. Days after suing a law firm, Musk’s X Corp. has filed a case against four unnamed individuals. According to a report by CNBC, a case was filed in the district court of Dallas County, Texas, alleging that the individuals were “unlawfully scraping data of Texas residents”.
What is X Corp seeking?
As per the case documents filed, X Corp. has alleged that the four individuals flooded Twitter
’s sign-up page with automated requests. This, in turn, put a lot of strain on Twitter’s servers and hampered user experience. “The volume of these requests far exceeded what any single individual could send to a server in a given period and clearly indicated that these automated requests were aimed at scraping data from Twitter,” the case filing notes.X Corp. wants $1 million in damages.
In fact, Musk had limited the number of tweets a user can read because of the alleged data scraping done by companies and individuals. This was also mentioned in the case filing. “Among other measures, in response to massive demands onX Corp.’s servers from extremely aggressive data-scrapers, X Corp. has instituted limits on how many Tweets each user could View in a given day. X Corp. has also limited access to Tweets for users who are not signed into a registered Twitter account.”
Why is the case against unnamed individuals?
The company said that so far it hasn’t been able to ascertain the identities of the four individuals. X Corp has said that the individuals’ conduct is “not limited to hampering the user experience for authentic Twitter users and customers, in addition to the time and money spent investigating and mitigating Defendants’ unlawful conduct.”
