How to set up Parental Supervision on Instagram

0 45

Meta-owned photo sharing platform Instagram rolled out a Parental Supervision feature for its users. Parents and guardians can use the Parental Supervision tools and insights to support their teenagers (ages 13–17) on Instagram. However, the feature is optional and both the parent and the teen must agree to participate to use it. The other person will be informed if the Supervision has been removed at any time.

Pre-requisites of Instagram Parental Supervision

  • Both parties must have the updated version of Instagram app on their devices.
  • Both teens and parents must have or create an Instagram account.
  • Supervision requires both a teen’s and their parent’s consent to use the feature.
  • The teen’s age must be between 13 and 17.
  • Only one parent can supervise a teen’s account.

Setting up Supervision on Instagram
A parental invite must be accepted before parental supervision on an Instagram account can begin. However, the teenager’s parents or themselves can extend this invitation. If a teen sends the invitation, they must then verify that the parent who accepted it is authorised to manage their account.

When either of the parties receives an invite notification for supervision, they can just accept the invite by clicking on the Accept button. Depending on who invited you for supervision, you have the option to accept or reject it. If a parent invites their teen, supervision will begin once the invitation is accepted. On the other hand, if a teen invites their parent, supervision won’t begin until the parent accepts and the teen certifies that the accepted parent is the right one to watch over their account.

The parent can view all the data saved on their teen’s Instagram account after the Supervision setup is complete. They can plan breaks that restrict their teen’s Instagram usage during specific days and times. They can also view their teen’s Instagram activity, including who they are following and who is following them.
