iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will have greater specs differentiation: report

0 59

According to TrendForce analysts, the chances of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max getting increased RAM are high. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are tipped to come with 8GB RAM next year, higher than the iPhone 14 series, and presumably next year’s vanilla models – the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus (if there is one).

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were also said to come with higher RAM earlier, but the new iPhone models launched with 6GB RAM. According to the report, Apple wants the enhanced RAM to match its new processor, which will be the Apple A17 Bionic chip that will power the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will probably stick with the A16 Bionic chip that powers the Apple iPhone 14 Pro models.

Apart from this, Apple is also said to finally make the move to a USB type-C charging port on the iPhone 15 series. While the company can technically delay the USB type-C implementation to the next generation of iPhones, Apple is said to do it with the iPhone 15 series after the EU order. It is unclear whether the iPhone 15 Type-C port will be available outside of Europe as well.

The report also threw light on the performance of the iPhone 14 series so far. Apple is expected to improve its 2021 global handset shipment total by almost 3 percent. This comes after there were reports of the iPhone 14 Plus struggling in terms of sales. Apple had earlier asked suppliers to cut the production of the iPhone 14 Plus due to the low demand for the latest addition to the iPhone lineup, the iPhone 14 Plus model.

The TrendForce report said that Apple is expected to sell about 240 million iPhone units, of which the iPhone 14 family is likely to account for 36 percent. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are said to be the best performers and reportedly hold an increased share of production.
