Rise of Hydra is Skydance’s long-awaited Black Panther and Captain America game – Destructoid
Nearly two years after the project was teased, Skydance New Media and Marvel have fully unveiled its upcoming game starring Black Panther and Captain America. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was revealed in a story trailer, along with its release year.
Coming from Amy Hennig’s studio, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra follows the Captain and Black Panther in an adventure set during World War II.
The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5. And if the trailer itself is any indication, it’ll look quite fabulous indeed. We witness an occupied Paris in the winter as snow gently falls on the rooftops that Azzuri, the WWII-era Black Panther, scampers over. The game art suggests we may visit Wakanda as well. There are hints of action and stealth in the video, but let’s not gloss over the storytelling.

The Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra story trailer boasts some impressive vocal work and facial animation. Assuming we’re looking at in-engine footage, the characters are feeling true to life. Captain America and Black Panther are played by Drew Moerlein and Khary Payton, respectively. They are joined by Nanali (Megalyn Echikunwoke), a Wakandan spy, and Gabriel Jones (Marque Richardson), a soldier in the Howling Commandos — the Captain’s old unit. The cast is supported by Julie (Lyne Renée), a member of the French Resistance, and Howard Stark (Joel Johnstone).
There’s not too much else to glean from the story trailer, outside of the tension between the two main leads. I’m sensing we’re going to do an enemies-to-friends story. Can I call this early as a buddy cop game? I’m going to anyway. It all looks badass to me, regardless.
Mostly, the trailer finally lets us check out what Marvel Games and Skydance New Media have been working on for the last few years. It certainly looks like it could be big, but we’ll have to see if Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra can do the Captain better than Marvel’s Avengers when it launches in 2025.
