Etsy cracks down on Denver artists selling Casa Bonita merchandise

Denver cartoonist Karl Christian Krumpholz on Monday said he had received a cease-and-desist email from Etsy prompted by his attempts to sell an illustration of Casa Bonita on the online marketplace. “Casa Bonita LLC reported that my illustration listing ‘infringed on their trademark,’ ” Krumpholz told The Denver Post after Westword first reported the story. “Because of that Etsy shut down the listing … it’s currently in my ‘inactive listings folder’ on Etsy.” The email, which was also sent to a least one other Denver…

Etsy launches its own wedding registry service

The age of walking around a home goods store with your fiancé scanning items to upload to your registry has long come and gone. Digital wedding registries have sprung up in its place, with most large companies offering one. Now, Etsy has launched a site-wide wedding registry, joining the ranks of stores like Amazon, Macy's and Pottery Barn. It's a logical step for Etsy, home to seemingly endless products and a section devoted just to "Wedding & Party" filled with gifts and decorations. Wedding registries are available…

How I used ChatGPT and AI art tools to launch my Etsy business fast

Home page of the Morley Space Etsy Store. The four images in the banner were entirely generated by AI. Screenshot by David Gewirtz/ZDNETI recently devoted about a week of my time to setting up an Etsy storefront. In this article, I'll show you how (and probably more interestingly, where) I used AI to create my experimental Etsy print-on-demand business. The career-expanding power of side-projects I have long adopted the practice of side-project time. While my ZDNET articles have regular deadlines, much of my other…

Etsy tops revenue estimates on demand for personalised products, higher fees

Etsy Inc on Wednesday beat market expectations for quarterly revenue, benefiting from demand for products such as personalised gifts offered on its e-commerce platform as well as higher transaction fees, sending the company's shares up about 2% in extended trading. Etsy -- a marketplace for sellers of vintage or handcrafted goods -- has maintained its popularity among cost-conscious shoppers after a pandemic-driven surge in growth when people bought cloth masks and craft supplies from the comfort of their homes.…

Meta, Google AI Partly Trained on Breitbart, RT: Study

AI is sophisticated, but it’s not really intelligent. Today’s large language models used to power programs like ChatGPT, are amalgamations of scraped text found on the internet. So when Meta introduced its “state of the art” LLaMA AI back in February, eyes turned to some of the datasets used to train it, especially the Google-made “Colossal Clean Crawled Corpus,”or C4. It turns out, like its namesake, some of the scraped text truly blows.Asus ROG Flow Z13 Gaming Tablet ReviewSo just how explosive is this C4 data set? An

Cooking With Cathy - Microcrisp“Get yourself a good, sharp pair of scissors.”Microcrisp is advertised as a roll of foil-like material that, according to infomercial host Cathy Mitchell, “changes the microwaves into thermal energy” which seems... wrong. But I digress. With some scissors, tape, and Microcrisp, you too can have crispy food from your microwave (which will famously make things soggy or chewy). Microcrisp is far from the worst concept on this list, but it loses points for the Microcrisp rack that you have to

There’s a Run on Silicon Valley Bank Swag

Silicon Valley Bank has collapsed, but branded company gear such as socks, hats and wine tumblers are selling like crazy.Soon after the second-biggest bank failure last week, people who owned SVB swag—and some people who didn’t—got to work. They listed merchandise that was once free at job fairs and company events for sometimes hundreds of dollars on eBay, Etsy and other online retailers. Other people have been making shirts or other swag poking fun at the collapse, hoping…

Etsy, other e-commerce companies feel squeeze of SVB collapse

Etsy on Monday resumed payments to merchants with Silicon Valley Bank accounts after the e-commerce platform paused their payouts over the weekend following the U.S. government shutdown of the bank last week. Approximately 0.5% of Etsy's active sellers -or around 2,700 merchants- had their payments delayed on Friday related to SVB's collapse, according to Etsy. "We are working to pay these sellers today, and we've already started processing payments via another payment partner this morning," an Etsy spokesperson told…
