Dimensity 9200 processor goes official as MediaTek’s first SoC with mmWave 5G support

Early next year, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. But how good will that new chipset be? Well, the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, which went official yesterday, should give us a fair idea about Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chipset. Previous leaks have hinted towards a similar performance from the Dimensity 9200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and they could have better GPU performance than Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset. Dimensity 9200 is a…

MediaTek’s latest Dimensity chip supports WiFi 7 and ray tracing

MediaTek is still frequently associated with budget Android phones, but it's increasingly making its way into flagships — and its latest system-on-chip might help on that front. The company has introduced a Dimensity 9200 chip that, among other claims, is billed as the first SoC to be ready for WiFi 7. You'll need a phone with a compatible network chipset and a WiFi router to match, but this theoretically delivers speeds of up to 6.5Gbps on-device while improving reliability and reducing lag. The Dimensity 9200 is also…

Intel strikes a deal to manufacture MediaTek’s chips

Intel and MediaTek have formed a strategic partnership to build chips for "a range of smart edge devices" using Intel Foundry Services (IFS), Intel announced. The aim is to help MediaTek build a "more balanced, resilient supply chain," with added capacity in the US and Europe.  MediaTek is a fabless chipmaker that supplies processors for smartphones made by OnePlus, Samsung and others, with most of its capacity currently handled by fab giant TSMC. However, it looks like Intel will build chips for less glamorous devices…
