Telegram starts rolling out ‘Instagram-like’ feature for Premium subscribers

0 37

Telegram has begun rolling out Stories, but only for Premium subscribers. Stories are a feature that allows users to post content as messages, images or videos that disappear after 24 hours, similar to Snapchat and Instagram Stories. In Telegram’s Stories, users have full control over who sees their content. They can choose to share their stories with everyone, select contacts (with exceptions), a specific group of contacts, or a list of close friends, ensuring privacy and customisation.

How do Telegram Stories differ from Instagram and Snapchat?
Telegram users will have control over the duration of the stories. They can choose to have their stories disappear after 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours, whereas most apps make Stories disappear after 24 hours.

What is so ‘premium’ about Telegram?
Telegram users can send reactions and reply to other users’ Stories, similar to the Stories feature on Instagram and Snapchat. However, there is a catch: only Telegram Premium subscribers can post Stories, while everyone else can only view them.

“Posting stories is currently available only to subscribers,” a message in the app says when non-Premium users try to create a new Story. It’s uncertain whether the Stories feature will become free for everyone eventually, but the term “currently” suggests it will. Free users will be able to view Stories created by Premium subscribers, but they will not be able to create their own Stories.

Durov also mentioned that, although the company was initially against the idea of integrating Stories into the app, the feature was one of the most requested by its users. “Even the skeptics on our team started to appreciate this feature. We can no longer imagine Telegram without it,” he said last month.

In order to get the new Stories feature, make sure the latest version of the Telegram app is available on the App Store.
