The wrath of the March 2024 core update is not linear

SEOs are already speculating about which update did what to which sites (the March 2024 core update or March 2024 spam update) and what sites should or shouldn’t be doing.  This is a bit dangerous. Meanwhile, Google is urging SEOs to be patient and to let this thing play out. Google isn’t yanking your chain. There is a ton of volatility and a ton of reversals happening at the moment. While what I’m about to share is purely anecdotal, I’ve been diving into the nitty gritty of these updates for a while now.

Linear Algebra 5: Linear Independence

Ax = 0 and proving a set of vectors is linearly independentPrefaceWelcome back to the fifth edition of my ongoing series on the basics of Linear Algebra, the foundational math behind machine learning. In my previous article, I walked through the matrix equation Ax = b. This essay will investigate the important concept of linear independence and how it connects to everything we’ve learned so far. This article would best serve readers if read in accompaniment with Linear Algebra and Its Applications by David C. Lay, Steven…

A Comprehensive Guide to Modeling Techniques in Mixed-Integer Linear Programming

Convert ideas into mathematical expressions to solve operations research problemsPhoto by Aaron Lefler on UnsplashNumerical optimization is at the core of quantitative techniques in decision science. It encompasses a set of frameworks to optimize one or more objectives under some prescribed set of circumstances. Two major categories of optimization problems are Linear and Nonlinear Programming. These categories are distinguished by how the mathematical relationships between the decision variables are established in the…

Solving Autocorrelation Problems in General Linear Model on a Real-World Application

Delving into one of the most common nightmares for data scientistsIntroductionOne of the biggest problems in linear regression is autocorrelated residuals. In this context, this article revisits linear regression, delves into the Cochrane–Orcutt procedure as a way to solve this problem, and explores a real-world application in fMRI brain activation analysis.Photo by Jon Tyson on Unsplash.General Linear Model (GLM) revisitedLinear regression is probably one of the most important tools for any data scientist. However,…

Zelda Boss Hints That Traditional Linear Zelda Games Aren’t Coming Back Any Time Soon

With The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom selling millions of copies and raking in awards, questions have been raised about what's next for the Zelda series, and whether or not the future may include blasts from the past. Franchise head Eiji Aonuma is here to pump the brakes, as he says the traditional linear Zelda adventures of old won't be coming back any time soon.Speaking with IGN, Aonuma expresses his belief that those views come from a "grass is greener" mentality--where people have a tendency…
